There is a captivating background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall betting is not legal. Eight gambling dens are situated in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital acquired from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling den is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that contains a number of conveniences on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 gaming tables.
