There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is not permitted. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge casino, contains 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features a number of comforts on top of the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
